The Rhode x Alexandra Leclerc Collection Makes Beauty Feel Like An Accessory

There are very few beauty launches that make me think, I actually want this in my bag. Most of the time, I see a new blush, lip tint or limited-edition shade, think it is cute, save it somewhere in the back of my brain, and move on. I already own approximately seventeen versions of the same pink blush, most of which I will probably never finish. So when rhode announced its new collaboration with Alexandra Leclerc, the part that immediately caught my attention was not even the new shades. It was the size.
I love a mini beauty product. There is something so satisfying about having the exact amount of something you actually need instead of carrying around a full-sized product that takes up half your bag and somehow still ends up being forgotten at the bottom. A mini blush that is genuinely made to come with you makes sense to me in a way that another oversized makeup launch simply does not.
Then rhode made it a charm.
The new rhode <3 Alexandra Leclerc collection is built around Pocket Pearl, a tiny, shimmery version of the brand's Pocket Blush, along with a new Sweet Apple Peptide Lip Tint and two accessories, the Flutter Charm and rhode Carabiner. Pocket Pearl comes in three shades, Gemini, a candy pink, Monet, an apricot, and Monaco, a terracotta, and the whole idea is that you can clip the little blush onto your bag and actually carry it around like an accessory.
I am, unfortunately, exactly the person this was designed for.
I have always loved beauty, but I think my relationship with buying beauty has changed quite a bit. I used to be much more susceptible to the excitement of having a new product. New shade? Cute packaging? Limited edition? Sold. There was a very real satisfaction in collecting things, especially when the product was beautiful enough to sit on my vanity.
Now I am much more interested in products that actually fit into my life.
That distinction matters. I do not need another blush simply because it is pretty. I need a blush that I will actually use. I want something I can throw into a small bag when I am going out for dinner, take with me on a weekend trip, or keep around when I know I will be out all day and want to refresh my makeup. That is why the mini format of Pocket Pearl makes so much sense to me.
It is not just a smaller version of something I already own. It changes how I think about carrying the product. Rhode has been particularly good at turning ordinary beauty products into things that feel like part of your lifestyle. The Peptide Lip Case made a lip product feel like something you could style with your phone. Now Pocket Pearl takes that same idea and moves it onto your handbag. The blush is no longer something hidden inside a makeup pouch. It becomes part of the outfit.
The brand has always understood that beauty products are not just functional objects anymore. They are part of how people construct their personal aesthetic. The clever part is that rhode rarely makes that feel overly complicated. The products remain simple, recognizable and easy to understand, but the world around them gives them a little more personality.
Alexandra Leclerc feels like the right person for this
I also think Alexandra Leclerc is an interesting choice for rhode because the collaboration does not feel completely random. She has been connected to the brand for a while, first appearing as a muse and later becoming a more recognizable part of the rhode universe. She is also an art historian, which makes the visual references behind this collection feel particularly fitting.
What I like about her aesthetic is that it never feels like she is trying too hard to look like she is doing something. Her beauty is very skin-focused, luminous and relatively uncomplicated. There is a softness to it that makes sense with what rhode has built, but the collection still feels personal to her.
That personal element shows up in the names, too. Gemini references Alexandra's astrological sign, Monet nods to the artist she loves, and Monaco references home. The shades are not just three random names designed to make a launch sound more interesting. They are little pieces of her world.
I think this is where influencer collaborations can either work beautifully or fall completely flat. If the person is simply attached to a product because they have a large following, you can usually feel it. It becomes another celebrity name printed on packaging. When the product actually reflects how that person dresses, wears makeup, travels or lives, the collaboration starts to feel much more believable.
This one feels closer to the latter.
The mini blush is the part I am obsessed with
Let me make the case for tiny blushes because I genuinely think beauty brands should be making more of them.
Full-size blushes last forever. I mean forever. I have blushes that have been sitting in my collection for years and somehow still look almost untouched. It is one of those beauty categories where you can very easily accumulate far more than you will ever realistically finish.
Pocket Pearl being 2.5 grams sounds small, but that is exactly what I like about it. I would much rather have a small blush that I can actually use up than another enormous compact that sits in my makeup drawer because I wanted to try a new shade. There is something psychologically satisfying about finishing a beauty product. It makes me feel like I actually bought something because I liked it, rather than because I liked the idea of owning it.
The formula is also based on the Pocket Blush, but this version has a reflective, shimmery finish. Rhode describes it as lightweight and hydrating, with a formula that melts onto the skin and lasts throughout the day. The shimmer is what makes this more interesting to me than simply shrinking the existing Pocket Blush. A tiny cream blush is practical. A tiny cream blush with a little glow feels more like something I would reach for when I want my makeup to look finished without looking overly done.
There are three shades, which I actually appreciate. Gemini is the candy pink, Monet is the apricot and Monaco is the terracotta. It gives the collection enough range to feel considered without turning it into a massive shade launch.
I am particularly interested in Monaco because I tend to gravitate toward warmer, slightly deeper blush tones, especially when I want that sun-warmed look rather than an obvious pink flush. Gemini is probably the shade that will have the biggest viral potential, but Monaco is the one I would personally want to test first.
The bag charm part is not just a gimmick
This is where I think rhode has been particularly smart.
Beauty has been moving closer and closer to fashion for a while now, but the bag charm trend has made that relationship much more obvious. People are decorating their bags with charms, keychains, ribbons, photographs, plushies and tiny objects that say something about them. The handbag has become less of a finished accessory and more of a canvas.
Pocket Pearl fits directly into that.
The blush can be paired with the Flutter Charm or the rhode Carabiner, meaning you can actually clip it onto your bag or keys instead of hiding it away. The Flutter Charm is a small butterfly designed with Alexandra, while the carabiner has the rhode logo and a loop specifically designed to carry the blush.
I know some people will look at this and say, it is just a bag charm.
Technically, yes. But I think the cleverness is that it still has a purpose.
There are plenty of accessories I have bought because they are cute and then completely forgotten about. This is one of the rare ones where the thing hanging off your bag is also something you can actually use. You get the visual element of a charm without having to pretend the charm has some deeper function than making your bag look cute.
I also think this is a very natural progression for rhode. The brand has already trained its audience to think of its products as objects that belong in their everyday surroundings. The Lip Case did this with the phone. Pocket Pearl does it with the bag. It is a small distinction, but it is a very good example of how the brand keeps finding new places for beauty to exist.
Then there is sweet apple
The other beauty product in the collection is the Sweet Apple Peptide Lip Tint, which is a sheer, buildable golden-brown shimmer with a tart apple candy scent. It is designed to complement Pocket Pearl and gives the collection another layer without making it feel like a completely new makeup line.
I like the decision to keep it in that brown, slightly warm family because it makes sense with the blush shades. It feels like a product you could throw on without thinking too much about it. The kind of lip product that lives in your bag and gets reapplied while you are walking somewhere.
That is really the common thread here. Nothing feels particularly precious.
The collection is pretty, but it is also meant to be used.
My Verdict - Why i think this launch will work
I have a very predictable reaction to rhode launches. I see the campaign, I look at the packaging, I tell myself I do not need another blush, and then somehow I am looking at the shades.
This one gets me more than most because the idea actually makes sense for how I use beauty.
I want my blush to be small enough to carry. I want a shade that I will actually reach for. I want something that gives my skin a little life without requiring a full makeup routine. I want to be able to throw it into a tiny bag when I am going out and not think twice about it.
The smartest beauty launches right now are not necessarily the ones introducing some revolutionary new ingredient or complicated new formula. They are the ones that understand how people actually live.
We carry tiny bags. We travel. We go from work to dinner. We want products that can sit on a vanity but also look cute in our handbag. We want makeup that takes thirty seconds to apply. We want things that feel personal enough to become part of our routines.
Pocket Pearl fits neatly into that behavior.
It is also very clearly part of the larger movement where beauty and fashion are becoming harder to separate. A blush can be makeup and an accessory. A phone case can be a beauty product. A lip tint can become something you collect. The category lines are getting blurry, and honestly, I think that is much more interesting than another brand trying to tell us that a new shade of beige is revolutionary.
Making that blush into a little charm feels like the kind of unnecessary thing that becomes strangely necessary once you see it. That is probably the best way I can describe the entire collection. It is not something I desperately needed. It is something I did not know I wanted until I saw it.
Which, unfortunately for my bank account, is exactly what rhode is very good at.
Love,
Rae
